Around 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior representative stated the attack made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
